Couiano tried to explain the history of the thought that considered in "the fourth dimension" as follows through experience of the residents of a 2- dimentional soup land.

The intellectual life object which lives in the thin film of the oil, floated on the surface of the soup piled to the plate, is regarded the world where they lived, as a 2-dimensional thing, only the front- back and the right-left.  For the residents in this world, a direction called the top - bottom does not have a meaning. It is the same thing that for the human beings whose recognition of space is completed in three dimensions like us, not have a meaning the movement to the direction of the fourth dimension of space.

Man can look at the complete view of a soup land from all directions, can lengthen a hand and can rob the money kept in the bank there easily. 

Then, mischievous Couriano tried to insert a spoon into the soup, and observe the situation of the residents of a soup land’s experience.

When a spoon was inserted, he or she in the soup land will become fearful to see that the mysterious phenomenon happened. At first, a short line is realized to a soup land (this is the head of a spoon). A spoon will become huge gradually with the motion which saves the bottom of a plate, and next become smaller and smaller shortly when dips up soup, and a line become a point and at the end,  disappear.

Just then, a fearful earthquake will happen in a soup land and residents will notice a part of their world disappeared suddenly. For the residents of a soup land, the spoon is not able to be seen like an object with thickness as we are looking so.They understand “a spoon” only as “a chain of the phenomenon which happens into time”.

Probably, you are not surprised so much to know the life of the residents of a soup land is very short. So, it is also needed a huge generation (100,000 and 1 million) until the residents there come to understand the meaning of a "spoon phoenomeno".

 And at last, an absurd genius appears and  shows as a result of performing such advanced calculation, "spoon phenomenon" is not  possible unless assumed the existence of higher "third dimension". A strange object is this third- dimensional actual existence, and the phenomenon happens when it passes a soup land. 

(although the residents there will not believe the third dimension since they can not see us, they continue to insist that third- dimension is the just only mathematical structure). 

Probably, in the history of thought, we are alive now in the first period when the high order "ideal object" being discovered which unifies synchrony and diachrony, like the generation of the first soup land which began to detect  the "3rd dimensional existence" of the spoon inserted in soup.
